Lithuania's national holiday - The Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania was marked in Baku.
Today Lithuania is a modern country, the member of European Union and active country of the international community, cherishing good neighbourhood relations, said Lithuania's ambassador to Azerbaijan Valdas Lastauskas, speaking at the solemn event.
The history of Lithuanian State began from crowning of Mindaugas, the first king of Lithuania, and continued to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, later – to the first in Europe - the Union of Lithuania and Poland.
Re-establishment of the State was declared ninety eight years ago on 16th February when the Act of re-establishment of the State was signed paving the ground for existence of the modern state – the Republic of Lithuania.
"We cherish our freedom but we also care much about everyone’s right to be free," said the ambassador.
He further noted that Azerbaijan has always been and will continue to be Lithuania's important partner.
"Lithuania and Azerbaijan maintain close cooperation on cultural, political and security issues, develop energy projects and continue deepening their partnership in trade to forge even stronger ties," he said.
"We enjoy the visits of the members of our governments, regular meetings of Intergovernmental Commission, the visits of the representatives of business, sport and culture," the ambassador added.
